Are you looking for an elephant?

Highland Geology is a specialist in oil and gas consulting, expert in exploration for oil and gas world-wide.

We can certainly tell you where to find an elephant like this one, and this time we'd recommend being in a vehicle rather than on foot. And we can find you some large exploration prospects, too.

Calling on over 30 years' interpretation experience backed up by a combination of Kingdom Suite programs and our own software, we map prospects and fields and we recommend exploration initiatives and acreage acquisitions. Our client list for services and reports during the past 10 years includes thirty or so commercial organisations, Geological Surveys and scientific institutes.

Petroleum geologist  John Nicholson offers a very special level of experience for your team, in reviewing your acreage and blocks you might wish to acquire, farm-in, farm-down. We offer:

Focused help on appraisal and development issues

Data room visits on your behalf, mapping prospects and fields

Preparing applications for new licences

Representation in meetings

A last look at disposals?

New ideas for your exploration team

A fresh look at problems and opportunities can be fast and highly cost-effective. Structural and stratigraphic modelling using Kingdom and our image processing-based interpretation software leads to new initiatives.

A special capability is DepthCon2000, which is for depth-conversion and balance of seismic sections, testing whether or not picks made are sensible.  Preserving all the detail of the original seismic section, we can depth-convert, pick faults, check-balance, reconsider and amend the model, repeat the depth conversion process, and converge on stable and sensible interpretations in complex terrain where major velocity anomalies are commonplace. To evaluate new plays we have invested in another image processing method: our proprietary TraceInterpreter  written in 2002-2003 with a SMART:SCOTLAND grant, is a powerful and fast tracer with a rule-based picking capability. It finds fault and unconformity surfaces in seismic profiles and in satellite photos, and highlights them so that fast and thoughtful interpretation is facilitated.
